Lancashire has population of about 1.5 million people and in is famous for its history as a centre for cotton industry, it was home to several mill towns. Today, the area is a mix of urban, costal and rural areas.
The Lancashire area is administered by a combination of county, district and unitary authorities. In Blackburn and Blackpool, all services are provided by the unitary borough councils.
