Search services and support for migrants

ARC provides English Classes twice a week at different ability levels. These are free of charge, easily accessible and based around practical language learning. Each day we run different classes ranging from beginners to advanced. ARC runs a weekly Drop-In for asylum seekers and refugees to meet, socialise and share food together. We offer a range of activities to participate in such as pool, table tennis and craft. Partner organisations working with asylum seekers and refugees locally attend to offer additional services. ARC provides advice and signposting for asylum seekers and refugees such as help making phone calls, understanding letters or require general advice via casework appointment. We provide social groups including a youth group and a football team, and always celebrate special events such as Anniversaries, Eid and Christmas.
Bury Adult Learning Service provide part-time adult education courses including ESOL, maths, IT, arts & crafts, languages, cookery, plus courses for people with additional learning needs. Their provision is based in the centre of Bury, very close to the bus and Metrolink station. For ESOL they deliver classes from Pre-Entry to Level 1, where learners are given the opportunity to take speaking & listening, writing and reading exams.  They also offer ESOL for Work courses for those learners that might not want to do exams but want to move into employment.  Most lessons are during the day, but they also have evening classes. Bury College also offers additional support through Student Services which may include help with the costs of travelling to college, counselling and mental health support, additional learning support and welfare advice.   How to apply for ESOL classes: If you live in Manchester or Greater Manchester and want to learn English, Manchester ESOL Advice Service can help you find the right learning opportunity. They can also signpost you to other support if you’re new to the UK. To find out which course is right for you, go to the GM ESOL Advice Service website and fill in a short enquiry form for the borough of Greater Manchester where you live. You will then be contacted about an ESOL assessment in your local area.
The ESOL Skills for Life qualifications are designed to prepare learners for the world of work or citizenship. The primary aim is to assist you in becoming independent of others (such as interpreters or translators; be they professionals, family, or friends) when talking with native English-speakers, both in a work environment and elsewhere. By improving your English, you will also improve your chances of gaining employment and accessing information from service provides such as libraries, children’s centres, and local attractions.
A classroom-based course which will help you develop the use of English speaking, writing ability and build your confidence on a pathway to new opportunities. Our specialist tutors offer tailored support to achieve 7 accredited Awards for 2022! • Award in ESOL Reading • Award in ESOL Writing • Award in ESOL Speaking & Listening • Award in Progression (Money management and employment rights and responsibilities) • Award in British Values, working and living in the UK • Award in Mental Well-being • Award in Employability Skills (CV writing, interviews, applications and job searching) • Face-to-face classroom-based learning, small mixed learning groups • Strong employer links which can open up a wide range of career options • An understanding of British culture and values to help you adjust to life in the UK • Support with IT skills and additional 1-2-1 sessions as required • Enrichment opportunities, including visits to museums and art galleries We pride ourselves on student progression and aiding individuals to access new opportunities through quality ESOL. Course Duration 15 Weeks Daytime Monday to Thursday 10 am to 12 pm Alternatively classes area available twice weekly 6 pm to 8.30 pm Classes are delivered at Spaces Peter House, Oxford Street, Manchester M1 5AN Tram and Bus Fare will be refunded with a valid ticket
Blackburn College offers a range of courses and qualifications for young people over the age of 16 years, and adults. Our English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses can help you improve your English. ESOL qualifications are designed to help you develop the skills you use in everyday life. They can also help you boost your CV or move on to further study. We offer a course for 16 – 18yrs olds too. The courses cover speaking and listening, reading and writing, gaining vocabulary as well as all aspects of punctuation and grammar. Taking an ESOL qualification can help you: – With employment – Talk to doctors and teachers – Support your child with their homework – Understand the customs of the UK – Pass the Life in the UK test and become a British citizen
