The Cheshire and Warrington region is mainly rural, with good connections to bigger cities such as Manchester and Liverpool. The region is made up of three councils:
– Cheshire East
– Cheshire West and Chester
– Warrington
Cheshire East has a population of 380,000 and includes historic towns of Crewe, Macclesfield and Congleton. Cheshire East has historic links to textile mills of the industrial revolution. It borders Cheshire West and Chester to the west, Greater Manchester to the north, Derbyshire to the east as well as Staffordshire and Shropshire to the south. It is known for its beautiful countryside.
Cheshire West and Chester is located between the Welsh border and Wirral to the West, the Mersey Valley to the North and the Shropshire border to the South. It has a population of over 330,000 and includes the historic city of Chester and the towns of Ellesmere Port, Northwich and Winsford. There are also many smaller urban areas and market towns, such as Neston and Frodsham and many rural towns and villages.
Warrington is a town with a population of 207,000. It lies on the banks of the River Mersey, 20 miles (32 km) east of Liverpool, and 20 miles (32 km) west of Manchester. Warrington is a large industrial town with good transport links to the rest of the country.
