Mandate Scheme
The mandate scheme is a resettlement route that allows eligible persons to relocate to the UK with the support of a family member already settled here.

Family reunion
The Refugee Family Reunion policy provides a safe and legal route for families to be reunited.

Leave in line
Under the resettlement schemes, if a refugee gives birth to a child before they have settled status (Indefinite Leave to Remain) in the UK the government generally grant that child leave in line with the parents status (limited leave to remain).

Gateway Protection Programme (GPP)
The Gateway Protection Programme Launched in March 2004 and ended in March 2020. The Programme provided a safe and legal route for refugees to settle in the UK. In the duration of the programme 9939 refugees were settled in the UK.

Syrian Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme (VPRS)
The Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme Launched in January 2014 and ended in February 2021. The scheme provided a safe and legal route, for those displaced by the conflict in Syria, to settle in the UK. 20,319 refugees found safety in the UK under this scheme.

Vulnerable Childrens Resettlement Scheme (VCRS)
The Vulnerable Childrens Resettlement Scheme launched in 2016 with a target to resettle 3000 vulnerable children from the Middle East and North Africa regions. The scheme ended in February 2021. Under this programme 1838 refugees were resettled.

Ex-Gratia Scheme
In June 2013 the Ex-Gratia Scheme was announced as an offer to Locally Employed Staff in Afghanistan who had been made redundant or were at risk of redundancy due to the UK armed forces withdrawal from Afghanistan. The Scheme closed on 30th November 2022 and was succeeded by the Afghan Relocation and Assistance Policy.
