Search services and support for migrants

Penrith and Eden Refugee Network (PERN) are a charity who promote social inclusion of refugees and asylum seekers and help them to integrate into society, as well as fostering understanding and good relations between the general public and people of different races and ethnicities, including those with asylum, refugee or immigrant status. We run services in Penrith and Carlisle. Our services in Penrith includes an English Club, trips and plus creative activities such as Family Painting with BlueJam Arts. Our free classes for learning English for asylum seekers and new refugees, especially those who can’t access council provision are volunteer-led and take place twice a week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. As well as learning, the English classes provide a place of welcome, friendship, solidarity and practical support. No need to book – just turn up. Class information:

Penrith and Eden Refugee Network provide support to asylum seekers and refugees to help understand the asylum claim process and use the Right To Remain toolkit. We are OISC Level 2 Regulated.   We run a 2 day a week legal advice service based in Carlisle, open to asylum seekers across Cumberland, including West Cumbria. We also run drop in Legal Information and Support Sessions every Tuesday from 4pm until 6pm at Carlisle College (Compton Street, Carlisle, CA1 1HS). When you arrive, please ask at Reception to find out what room we are in. You do not need to book in advance.     Our service can help people based in Cumberland with: – Legal Advice on your Asylum Claim (OISC2 regulated) – Support to Find a Lawyer – Help to Prepare Evidence for your Asylum Claim – Access to Right to Remain Multi-Language Toolkit – Asylum Support Issues     We cannot provide legal advice on: – Non-protection based immigration – Work, study or tourism visas – The EU Settlement Scheme – Citizenship applications
Caritas is responding by providing a safe space with advice, support and friendship at the Well Project. ESOL classes at St. Aidens Centre are on Tuesdays 11am – 13pm and there is a women’s ESOL and craft group every Thursday at 10:30am – 12:30pm. Children are welcome at the women’s group. Manchester Immigration Detainee Support Scheme – visitors to immigration detainees held at Manchester Airport. Offer emotional and social support to try and improve the conditions of people held in detention.
Refugee education, housing, funding and support for refugees. Support for those living in Salford experiencing poverty and discrimination. ESOL classes run by qualified tutors with experience:
  • Pre-entry to Level 2 – term time with opt in TRINITY exams available.
  • 4 – 6hrs a week.
  • 2/3 groups.
