Our 16-19 ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) programme is designed to empower learners from diverse linguistic backgrounds to develop their English language proficiency. Spanning from Entry Level 1 to Entry Level 3, this comprehensive course equips students with the skills needed for effective communication, education, and employment opportunities in English-speaking environments.
Course Structure:Entry Level 1 (ESOL E1): In this initial stage, students focus on building foundational language skills. They learn basic vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar, with an emphasis on everyday communication. Topics include greetings, introducing oneself, and common daily activities. Interactive activities, games, and group discussions foster a supportive learning environment.
Entry Level 2 (ESOL E2):As students’ progress to E2, they expand their vocabulary and comprehension abilities. They begin to understand and use more complex sentence structures. Topics encompass family, hobbies, and personal experiences. Reading short texts and writing simple paragraphs become integral components of this level.
Entry Level 3 (ESOL E3): E3 focuses on developing advanced language skills. Students engage in conversations on a wider range of topics and enhance their reading and writing capabilities. Themes include work, travel, and cultural exploration. Students work on essays, presentations, and comprehensive reading assignments.
Level 1 (ESOL L1 ):Level 1 marks a significant milestone, as students transition to more advanced language skills. Topics broaden to include work, travel, and cultural exploration. Students engage in deeper conversations, refine their reading and writing skills, and work on essays and presentations.

Tutors at Stockport College will interview you and carry out an initial assessment to see what skills you already have and then place you on the most appropriate level.

We offer accredited (Pearson) ESOL Speaking & Listening Courses at pre-entry, entry 1,2 and 3 and level 1 and 2, dependant on the outcome of your language assessment, which you will need to before you can enrol. Our interactive and practical courses will unlock your potential within a supportive and inclusive learning environment, from grammar and vocabulary to speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.

 

We have sessions available morning, afternoon and evening:

  • MON- FRI 9:30 – 12:00

  • MON- FRI 12:30 -15:00

  • TUE: 18:00 -21:00

 

You will be asked to attend an information, advice and guidance session to find the right course and level.

Progression: English or maths Functional Skills, digital and vocational courses or progress further in your chosen career.

Free to those who meet eligibility criteria. Must be 19+
