Search services and support for migrants

SWAP provide practical hands on support through a range of services, including 1:1 advocacy and case work, educational and support groups as well as ESOL classes. Volunteers play a key role, helping to deliver group work, casework and other support. We have ESOL classes on:

DP aims to provide a safe environment for asylum seekers and refugees where they can find friendship, food and practical help. The Casework team at the Destitution Project (DP) provides casework support for asylum seekers and refused asylum seekers who live in Bolton. (Please note that, based on our Charity’s registration, we are not able to provide casework help to anyone living outside of Bolton or anyone who is an EU citizen or a British passport holder.) Wednesdays are our drop in day for accessing the food bank, clothing donations, a hot meal, recreational activities, a free barber and basic English classes.
Support for Wigan Arrivals Project supports asylum seekers and refugees who are living in the Wigan Borough. Our vision is for everyone living in Wigan to feel welcome, to be given an equal chance to build a decent life, and to know where and how to access support when necessary. SWAP provide practical hands on support through a range of services, including 1:1 advocacy and case work, educational and support groups as well as ESOL.
Mon 10:30 – 11:30am and 13pm – 14pm. Fri – 10:30 – 11:30 and 12:30 – 13:30pm.
General English courses will help you to:

  • Communicate more confidently
  • Use correct grammar
  • Improve your pronunciation
  • Improve writing skills
  • Learn the fundamentals to prepare for our exam preparation courses

We have an open door policy: anyone can come in and use our services no matter where you live or your circumstances. The NCA is an integral part of a diverse community that is tackling multi levels of deprivation and we fulfil our mission by offering a wide range of services and activities for all ages, all of which are delivered by a dedicated team of staff and volunteers who have a variety of skills and knowledge.
An ESOL course is for you if English is not your first language and you want to improve your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. Our ESOL courses focus on language skills but also include employability and citizenship skills. Our ESOL classes normally run on; Wednesdays from 9:30 – 11.30; 12.30 – 2.30. No need to book, just come along. We also run conversation groups at various times during the week. There is no requirement to prebook, just turn up on Wednesday morning and our team will be ready to welcome you.
