The government is introducing a digital immigration system with the Home Office beginning implementation of eVisas for nearly all visa holders living in the UK by 2025.
From 17 April 2024 the Home Office will start sending emails to everyone with physical immigration documents, called biometric residence permits (BRPs), asking them to create a UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account to access their eVisa, which is digital proof of their immigration status.
Invitations will be sent in phases to start with before the process opens to all BRP holders in summer 2024.
Creating a UKVI account will not change, impact or remove your current immigration status or rights in the UK.
There is a press release from the Government on this change eVisa rollout begins with immigration documents replaced by 2025
There is also a video on What is an eVisa? and a media factsheet: eVisas written by the Home Office.
