What is a Hate Crime?
The law in the UK recognises five types of hate crime on the basis of:
- Race
- Religion
- Disability
- Sexual orientation
- Transgender identity
Any crime can be prosecuted as a hate crime if the offender has either:
- demonstrated hostility based on race, religion, disability, sexual orientation or transgender identity
Or
- been motivated by hostility based on race, religion, disability, sexual orientation or transgender identity

How to report a Hate Crime?
If there is an emergency situation call 999.
There are various ways to report Hate Crimes:
- You can phone 101.
- You can visit your local police station.
- You can report an incident on the True Vision website.
