Eligibility
There are lots of health-related services and support that you can access. Some of these services are available through a referral from your General Practitioner (GP) but some are services you can go to directly for help and support. Details of services you can access directly can be found on the Health / Accessing Services / Service List page of our website.
The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) have published a set of resources designed to help people seeking asylum access UK healthcare services. The published resources include:
“What are people seeking asylum entitled to when they access health care?” – a short video explaining the healthcare rights of asylum-seeking people.
The new resources were produced following research conducted by the EHRC and published in November 2018. This research is also available to view on the EHRC resource page, and includes:
Review of evidence – a review of existing evidence looking at the barriers people seeking or refused asylum face in trying to access healthcare services.
Doctors of the World have produced a guide to support understanding of How the NHS works. This has been translated into a range of languages:
