Asylum information for Councils

The North West SMP works closely with all regional Councils (across all tiers) to ensure that colleagues are able to understand the process surrounding asylum dispersal. Our aim is to work collectively, ensuring individuals and communities are supported in a way that mitigates risk and promotes the benefits from migration.

Councils do not receive ongoing funding for people seeking asylum who live in their area, but the Home Office has recently made one-off payments to Councils in recognition of the support they provide. Further details are in the FUNDING section below.
