Asylum
The UNHCR defines an asylum seeker as ‘someone who is seeking international protection. Their request for refugee status, or complementary protection status, has yet to be processed, or they may not yet have requested asylum but they intend to do so’.
People will make an Asylum claim when they are already in the UK, and whilst their claim is ongoing, they have a legal status to live in the UK. However, the asylum dispersal process is complex and difficult to navigate. We work with a range of partners to advocate for improvements in this process, seeking better outcomes for the person and our partners.
