The ESOL course is made up of 4 components; Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing. Learners will learn to follow and participate in discussions, listen to and follow instructions and give personal opinions on topics. Learners will also learn to read and understand short texts such as notes, forms, and articles, and write to communicate information and opinions in texts such as emails, articles and forms. As well as completing the Trinity exams, learners will also develop their grammar and vocabulary, and gain confidence in producing spoken and written English. We offer ESOL courses from entry level to level 2, and we hold assessments throughout the year for learners to find out their level and enrol.

Intent – what will I learn?

You will enhance both your skills for independent living in the United Kingdom and your preparation for employment by developing and demonstrating your knowledge of and skills in:

  • Following instructions using imperative and modal verbs (must, should, have to, need to etc)
  • Listening and responding to requests for personal information (formally and informally)
  • Making requests and asking questions using “WH ..type” questions correctly in every day contexts
  • Making statements of fact clearly using simple present tense
  • Responding to questions correctly using three main tenses (simple present, simple past and future tenses)

These language skills will be developed through a series of Context Studies based on the skills needed to live and to work independently

  1. Hazards and Dangers in different  settings (at home and at work)
  2. Activities and Routines i)  in the workplace and at home ii) Through Hobbies and Interests
  3. Organising your time (timetables, commuting to class and work planning trips and journeys etc)
  4. Shopping
  5. Appointments –  Making, Changing, Cancelling and Keeping appointments (GP, JCP, Interviews etc)

Implementation – how will I learn?

Sessions will include a mix of tutor demonstration, classroom activities, working in groups, individual projects and homework.

Your full attendance in class will be required to help you to meet your learning targets.

How will I know I’m making progress?

You will have a Personal Learning Plan (PLP), which you will update regularly.

Your tutor will also give you regular updates on your progress, both verbally and in writing.

Impact – what can I expect to achieve?

When you successfully achieve your learning goals, following course completion you will receive a Certificate of Achievement from STEC

Rotunda offers English language classes through its School of ESOL for adult learners ranging from absolute beginners to Level 2. Lessons focus on everyday speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills to help with daily life and work. Alongside ESOL, the center provides Functional Skills in math and English, vocational training, and community wellbeing support.  Courses are often free for adults aged 19 and older who live in the Liverpool City Region and meet specific low-income or employment criteria.
Our Skills for Life centre offers a wide range of classes and courses to help support people into employment or better jobs. We work with each person who visits our centre to create a bespoke plan based on the persons need and help them work through their plans and hopefully support them into employment. Our timetable changes depending on courses but our sessions include –

Our ESOL provision helps refugee and migrant women build confidence in English for everyday life, work, and community life. We focus on practical skills and peer support so learners feel safe and able to progress. We’re based in Stockport. We deliver Speaking (daily conversations) sessions. We have 3 levels: Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced. We don’t offer any qualifications. Our sessions are friendly and welcoming, we encourage everyone to talk and join the conversations. We also run ‘Nishtman School’ and ‘Waran Music Group’ to support wellbeing, creativity and connection.

We are proud of our Drop-in Centre, which provides advice and support for the Chinese community. Whatever your ambitions, we offer help in employment and workshops to help develop your skills to pursue the job you want. We also sometimes advertise some jobs on our Facebook pages.
