Penrith and Eden Refugee Network (PERN) are a charity who promote social inclusion of refugees and asylum seekers and help them to integrate into society, as well as fostering understanding and good relations between the general public and people of different races and ethnicities, including those with asylum, refugee or immigrant status. We run services in Penrith and Carlisle. Our services in Penrith includes an English Club, trips and plus creative activities such as Family Painting with BlueJam Arts.
Our free classes for learning English for asylum seekers and new refugees, especially those who can’t access council provision are volunteer-led and take place twice a week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. As well as learning, the English classes provide a place of welcome, friendship, solidarity and practical support. No need to book – just turn up.
