Search services and support for migrants

We started offering ESOL (English as a Second Language) classes to asylum seekers and refugees in January 2016. All of our students are adults coming from different parts of the globe. They’re all different – some young, some older, some with young families, including single mums with toddlers, and some who have special needs or challenges and need a further level of support. We started off small, but our numbers have grown significantly and our students have blossomed. With numbers rising, by January 2020 we were delivering nine classes in three different venues. We currently teach classes for beginners, elementary levels 1, 2 and 3, as well as a GCSE class. We meet at least once a week.
Our 16-19 ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) programme is designed to empower learners from diverse linguistic backgrounds to develop their English language proficiency. Spanning from Entry Level 1 to Entry Level 3, this comprehensive course equips students with the skills needed for effective communication, education, and employment opportunities in English-speaking environments.
Course Structure:Entry Level 1 (ESOL E1): In this initial stage, students focus on building foundational language skills. They learn basic vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar, with an emphasis on everyday communication. Topics include greetings, introducing oneself, and common daily activities. Interactive activities, games, and group discussions foster a supportive learning environment.
Entry Level 2 (ESOL E2):As students’ progress to E2, they expand their vocabulary and comprehension abilities. They begin to understand and use more complex sentence structures. Topics encompass family, hobbies, and personal experiences. Reading short texts and writing simple paragraphs become integral components of this level.
Entry Level 3 (ESOL E3): E3 focuses on developing advanced language skills. Students engage in conversations on a wider range of topics and enhance their reading and writing capabilities. Themes include work, travel, and cultural exploration. Students work on essays, presentations, and comprehensive reading assignments.
