At St, Helens College, our free courses can help you if English is your second language and you are living or planning to settle in the UK. Our courses are offered at entry 1 – level 2 to improve your English language skills including reading and writing. They can also help you to progress on to other courses.  You will become part of our College community – a safe space to learn, be supported and thrive, where you can seek advice and support at our weekly drop-in centre, take part in a range of activities such as yoga, arts and music workshops and boxing or even join our refugee football team, Hope United FC.  Courses follow the national ESOL Skills for Life curriculum and you will be taught all four skills of language: Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing. They are designed to help you improve your level of English, to get more out of your life in the UK and to make it easier to:
    • talk to doctors, teachers, bank or shop assistants
    • fill in administrative forms
    • understand laws and customs
    • help your children with homework
    • study or train for a qualification
    • look for employment or apply for citizenship

“Knowsley FACE is the Council’s adult education provider. We offer a range of courses including accredited and non accredited provision. We deliver our courses across a range of Knowsley Centres for Learning, libraries, primary schools and community venues. Our courses are predominately evening provision within the Centres for Learning. Our daytime provision is delivered in Children’s Centre’s, community venues, primary schools (Family Learning courses) and Knowsley Libraries.”
Providing you with the essential language skills you need to communicate, an ESOL course will help you to speak and listen to as well as being able read and write in English even if you have never done so before. It will also give you a basic yet comprehensive understanding of English grammar and punctuation. Our ESOL courses are available across five levels designed to accommodate students of differing abilities ranging from those with no experience of the language to others who want to build on what they already know. At Hugh Baird College, we offer ESOL courses for people who do not have English as their first language and who want to improve their language skills to get more out of their life in the U.K. The courses we provide will help you improve all your skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing), make it easier to seek employment, get a qualification, help your children with homework or apply for citizenship. In your ESOL classes you will practise all your skills around a range of everyday topics. We have ESOL courses for 16 – 18yrs olds, adults, digital skills and specialised courses for work  – catering, childcare, construction, hairdressing and health work. We have an open door policy: anyone can come in and use our services no matter where you live or your circumstances. At Pukar, we offer IT, maths and short courses like hairdressing, henna and sewing as well as ESOL courses. Our ESOL courses cover pre-entry to entry 3 level and we can give you advice to progress onto level 1. These courses are for people whose first language isn’t English, who have started to settle in the UK sand need to improve their language skills. We hold ESOL assessments every Monday 15pm – 16pm (Term-Time), please call us to book your assessment of for more information at 01772 822700. An ESOL course is for you if English is not your first language and you want to improve your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. Our ESOL courses focus on language skills but also include employability and citizenship skills. Our ESOL classes normally run on; Wednesdays from 9:30 – 11.30; 12.30 – 2.30. No need to book, just come along. We also run conversation groups at various times during the week. There is no requirement to prebook, just turn up on Wednesday morning and our team will be ready to welcome you.
