AAWAZ is a voluntary sector organisation and registered charity which was formed by Asian women in 1997. The name AAWAZ mean “Voice” in Urdu and is the “voice” of Asian women across Lancashire and nationally.
The charity’s work revolves around the principle of self-help, equipping women and families to learn to help themselves, so that the culture of dependency can be broken down. Through its work, a better understanding between communities has been achieved which is aiding integration and harmony.
AAWAZ on average engages with over 300 women a week who all have different needs, but the main thrust of its work is still with women who wish to learn English, to enable them to help themselves and their families.
We offer English language classes with confidence building, please email or call for more information.
We offer informal English lessons to asylum seekers and refugees in the Preston area. We cater for beginners, intermediate and advanced learners. Learning in small groups there is always someone to help. We also offer general help, support and pastoral care. A great place to feel welcome and make friends. We also have lunch together after lessons!
Classes are every Tuesday 10.00 am – 1pm throughout the year. Please just come to the classes, you don’t need to book.
We’re a not-for-profit organisation whose focus is to create a better society by driving integration of marginalised communities and creating leadership roles for those lacking representation. P.E.P quite simply means, ‘people empowering people‘ and that is what we wish to achieve at a grassroots level.
