Search services and support for migrants

The English Language Centre offers 3 hours a week of free unaccredited language support for refugees and asylum seekers. Who can attend? Refugees or asylum seekers over 18 years old who:
  • have an intermediate level English skills (CEFR level B1/entry 2 and above)
  • can attend both classes each week
  • live in the Liverpool City region
These classes will help you:
  • Build confidence in general English communication.
  • Improve your grammar, vocabulary, speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.
Class times:
  • Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:20pm – 3:50pm in term time.
  • Classes run in four 10-week blocks over the academic year.
  • Classes run on a continuous enrolment basis (there is no start or end date).
Not suitable for beginners or people with only an elementary level of English.

WEA is a charity that offers courses for adults in local communities and online. Learn new skills, improve your English, explore arts and crafts and more.  WEA courses are held all over the UK in lots of locations and they offer a wide range of free short (e.g 1-4 month) ESOL courses – please go onto their website to check current course information and to enrol.
At the City of Liverpool College, iff your first language is not English, our English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses will help to improve your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. As your language skills improve, you will gain confidence and find it easier to live, work and study in the UK. You will study throughout the year and at a time to fit in with your work and home commitments. There are no formal entry requirements but you will be asked to complete an initial assessment so that you can begin your studies at the right level. Many courses are FREE, and are taught by a team of dedicated language specialists. We offer ESOL for 16-18yrs olds and adults and you will gain a city and guilds qualification at the end of your course. At Liverpool Adult Learning, we deliver accessible, high quality, ESOL courses for adults over 19 years old, many of which are free of charge. You will need to complete a skills check before you join. Our functional skills courses include qualifications and are about using literacy skills in everyday life and work. You will be entered for a qualification at the correct level – up to Level 2 – and these qualifications may prepare you to take a GCSE course next. (Higher than Level 2 Functional Skills, this qualification is for more advanced learners. You must pass the skills check to join this course.
