Search services and support for migrants

At Hugh Baird College, we offer ESOL courses for people who do not have English as their first language and who want to improve their language skills to get more out of their life in the U.K. The courses we provide will help you improve all your skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing), make it easier to seek employment, get a qualification, help your children with homework or apply for citizenship. In your ESOL classes you will practise all your skills around a range of everyday topics. We have ESOL courses for 16 – 18yrs olds, adults, digital skills and specialised courses for work  – catering, childcare, construction, hairdressing and health work. If you want to now more please look on our website or email us.
ESOL offers part-time courses at different level for speakers of other languages, who wish to gain national qualifications in the English Language. Courses develop reading, writing, listening and speaking skills and include grammar, access and study skills. ESOL courses are based on the ESOL Skills for life National Curriculum from Beginner Level to Level 2. As there are classes in the mornings, afternoons and evenings, you can choose the best time for your studies. You can join the courses throughout the year, if there is a place available. ESOL programmes are accredited at the following levels: * Pre Entry – Beginers * Entry Level (E1, E2, E3) * Level 1 (equivalent to NVQ 1) * Level 2 (equivalent to NVQ 2 / GCSE) Exams can be taken in Reading, Writing, Listening/Speaking. We also have some maths and IT classes for ESOL students.
We run two types of ESOL courses here at KCLC. Our accredited courses are delivered by a partner organisation (WEA) and lead to nationally recognised qualifications at five levels (Entry Levels 1, 2 and 3, Level 1 and Level 2). In addition, we also deliver non-accredited courses that address all aspects of the English language (Speaking, Listening, Reading & Writing) – but there are no tests or exams on these courses. We can offer quick starts on these courses (often within 2 weeks).
