We are a constituted voluntary community group based in Warrington that is open to anyone who is a host or guest under the Government Homes for Ukraine scheme or family scheme. Our aim is to provide a safe place and essential care for all of our members and create a sense of family. We have over 350 Ukrainian members registered at the hub including 140 children. We have over 70 volunteers also registered. On Sundays we provide refreshments, a social space for children and adults, children’s organised play activities, adult activities such as art and music sessions. On Wednedays we provide English lessons for children and adults. We celebrate all major UK and Ukrainian festivals – e.g Easter, Christmas, Ukrainian Independence Day. We organise trips for our families e.g. theatre trips, trips to the lakes, Chester and York to help engender a sense of community and provide some good experiences for our guests. We provide both emotional and practical support including support to settle into the UK including navigating the benefits system, supporting those moving into their own home including talking to landlords, helping source furniture and equipment.
We work with a number of people who have found themselves homeless due to unfortunate circumstances including debt, domestic violence, substance misuse issues, asylum seekers and unaccompanied asylum seeking children. We also support those with no recourse to public funds. We also work with young people who have left care and support individuals in their own homes. Our mission is to change the way people think about homelessness and break the stigma. Our work isn’t just about getting people off the street but empowering them to live their best lives possible, we want to see all of our customers succeed and continue to flourish.
Coffee Bar offers a welcoming, accessible & supportive space to all; a warm, inclusive, non-judgmental space where people can find community, make friends, receive practical and pastoral care, be connected with other services or simply enjoy a hot drink and some food. We provide hot and cold refreshments, good conversation and a very popular crafts & activities table. Steve, our Pastoral Support Worker & Coffee Bar Coordinator, is supported by an experienced team of friendly volunteers, including Cantonese speakers who can welcome and support members of the Hong Kong Community. Our team is on hand to help in any way we can.
Warrington Youth Zone is an open access Universal service for children and Young People aged 7 -19 or up to 25 for those with additional needs. We have two elements to our work, universal and targeted programmes. Our targeted programmes provide focused support for individuals and small groups of children and young people
From the ‘Ukraine Unit’ we receive donations from the public, community organisations, etc from across the North West. Here the donations are organised and packed and sent to Ukraine. We also act as a meeting area of members from the “Chorley & District Support for Ukraine” group and also acts as a meeting place and volunteering opportunity for our Guests from Ukraine. We also provide items for the current homes of our Guests from Ukraine. The availability of what we offer depends on what has been donated and what is still available in the unit at the time of visiting. Most activities of this group are coordinated using the Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1121686242002113
