Book: A Taste of Home

Lancashire Refugee Resettlement Team are delighted to announce that A Taste of Home, which has been created by over 100 of the resettled Syrian Refugees, has now gone to print! Families from across 10 cities and towns in Lancashire took part in the project. Over the course of the last year they have shared recipes, stories and photos of home to create a book that hopes to capture the beauty and majesty of Syria before the war. Behind each recipe, there is a story of a Syrian woman and her family. People have shared their memories of the architecture, culture and food from Daraa, to Idlib to Homs.

A Taste Of Home was dreamed up and created by over 100 Syrian refugees who have found sanctuary in Lancashire. Through community meals, cooking workshops and neighbourhood gatherings, the people in this book have tried to integrate into their new home, while honouring the land they left. At many of these events, local people and refugees were able to bond, communicate and develop friendships over delicious, home-cooked meals. Food is such a central part of Syrian family life and each recipe comes with a story about the much loved homes these families have left. Syria is so much more than the destruction we see on the news; we hope that this recipe book helps capture a glimpse of the history and culture that created this beautiful country and its people.

All proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to charities supporting the wellbeing of Syrian Refugees.
