Refugee Week 2020: Migrant Help

All dreams are equal.
Regardless of our background or life story, we all have dreams and aspirations for our and our families’ future. This Refugee Week we invite you to explore and share your dreams. Choose one or both of our initiatives below and share what matters to you. At the end of the week, we will create an online collective exhibition of ‘dreaminess’!

Our Dreams: the art class

Migrant Help and ARTconnects are collaborating to bring you this online art workshop, led by award-winning artist/filmmaker and Human Rights Activist, Salma Zulfiqar.

Using just basic materials you will have at home, you will be inspired to create your dream picture. We will guide you in drafting your idea, provide inspiration and arm you with some simple drawing skills and colouring methods. You could use markers or pencils, or if you want to try something more adventurous we will also guide you on using acrylic and watercolours to create different styles. Once you have created your wonderful piece of art, we will invite you to take a snap and send it in to us for a chance to be in our online exhibition which will bring everyone’s dreams together into a collaborative art piece.

Available on-demand from 10am on Monday 15th June at the following locations:

Their Dreams: the exhibition

They came to the UK dreaming of a better and safer life, but the reality was very different: under threat they were forced into prostitution, forced labour and domestic servitude.

Meet our incredible survivors of modern slavery and human trafficking. They came to the UK dreaming of a better and safer life, but their reality was terrifyingly different. Their dreams were not considered important by their captors, but we believe everyone’s dreams are of equal importance.

For Refugee Week, we are offering you the opportunity to walk in their shoes. Discover and share in the survivors’ stories, their dreams when they came to this country, and the new dreams they are building now as they leave their pasts behind.

This exhibition will be available from 18 June, accessible from the following locations:

My Dreams: your creations

Join us this Refugee Week by sharing your dreams as part of our creative call!

Using our ‘My Dreams’ PDF worksheet as your canvas, we invite you to get creative in sharing your dreams with the world. We want to celebrate and mark the importance of dreams this Refugee Week, so whether it’s a poem, piece of art, musing, quote or something else entirely, we want to hear from you!

Once you have created your piece, we invite you send it in to us so that we can share the dreams of our clients and supporters, from all their different perspectives, online and build a huge collective work of ‘dreaminess’! To be involved, take a photo of your work and send it to or post it to: Migrant Help, Charlton House, Dour Street, Dover, CT16 1AT. Alternatively you could share it on social media, tag us and use the hashtag #AllDreamsAreEqual.
