The North West RSMP is pleased to announce that we will be hosting The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in the North West to facilitate Country Information Sessions on Afghanistan to bolster practitioners’ experience and knowledge of resettling Afghan nationals.

The sessions are aimed at social care professionals as well other practitioners involved in supporting Afghan families.

The session dates are 10th and 11th November 2021 (14:00-16:30). Currently, all sessions are run virtually via zoom.

The following is a brief description of the session:

“These one-day sessions on Afghanistan will look at the background and experiences of Afghan communities and how this can potentially impact their expectations of life in the UK. By covering some key topics, participants will have an opportunity to explore opportunities to adapt support services for effective integration assistance. Topics covered over the course of the session include a brief history of modern-day Afghanistan as well as its geography and demographics, health and education infrastructure, cultural diversity and traditions, as well as the recent conflict and its impact. To facilitate enhanced learning, the sessions will be participatory and rely heavily on participant engagement through activities and discussion. We therefore highly encourage participants to prepare to take an active part.”

Please contact Arthur Muhumuza (Social Care Lead, North West Regional Strategic Migration Partnership) via email at Arthur.Muhumuza@manchester.gov.uk if you are interested in attending. The course is free to attend. There are limited spaces and these will be taken on a first come first served basis.

We very much look forward to seeing you on the sessions in big numbers!
